PRODUCTION & SUSTAINABILITY
At Turn&Bake we make every piece in small numbers, with care, in Turkey. We believe a good piece of clothing should respect both the person wearing it and the world it is made in. Here is where, how and to what standards our products are made.
Made in small, considered batches
We produce our collections in limited quantities and we don't remake a design once it sells out. This keeps us from piling up unsold stock and creating unnecessary waste. We list each product's composition clearly on its page, because we want you to know what you're wearing.
Made under one roof in Istanbul
Our products are made in Istanbul, at a facility with more than 40 years of experience that produces for some of the world's leading brands. Almost every stage of production, from design and pattern-making to printing, embroidery, sewing, washing, pressing and packing, happens under the same roof.
This lets us follow every step closely. Because garments aren't shipped between different workshops, it also cuts out unnecessary transport and the environmental impact that comes with it.
Energy from the sun, less consumption
A solar power plant on the factory roof supplies part of the energy used in production directly from the sun. Improvements made with the methods of international climate programmes have cut energy consumption by up to 8%.
Production is monitored against the criteria of the Higg Index, the textile industry's tool for measuring environmental and social impact, and the data is shared with independent organisations for transparency.
Printing and washing with respect for nature
From the fabric's journey to the chemicals used in dyes, every step of production follows standards set by international organisations. Sustainable dyes are preferred in digital printing, and washing is done in-house rather than outsourced, with care for the environment.
Certifications and audits
Our production partner holds the following international certifications and memberships:
- amfori BSCI: independent audits of social responsibility criteria such as working conditions, fair pay and health and safety.
- Sedex membership: transparent sharing of ethical and responsible supply chain data.
- OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: testing of textiles for substances harmful to human health.
Your part
A large share of a garment's environmental impact depends on how it's cared for after you buy it. Washing your pieces cold and inside out, and hanging them to dry instead of using a tumble dryer, saves energy and helps them look like new for much longer.
We don't claim to be perfect, but we work to do better with every collection. If you have a question or a suggestion, write to us at info@turnandbake.com.
